We want to stay somewhere nice maybe the country ish... And also have easy access to the Train for Days trips. We are looking at a place outside Florence, just wanted some opinions.
I am sorry, but the Tuscan hillside is a place where rental cars do best. The region is not well blessed with train routes. The bus lines are the alternative, and they are somewhat of a hassle.
I prefer to stay outside of Poggibonsi in an agriturismo--south of Florence. Virtually every farm in the region has rooms and apartments as a source of secondary income.
Thank You. We decided to rent a car and stay at a Farmhouse West of Florence.
Kiem,
First do a bit of research and decide which towns you want to visit. Then plot them on a map and stay in an area centrally located. There's no point in staying in an area that your going to have to drive over an hour to reach the towns you really want to see.
This site should help you decide, then just google the towns to confirm your expectations.
If you find a Tuscan Countryside postcard chances are it was taken in the Val D'Orcia region which is almost 2 hours south of Florence and an area where rental car is king.
Not to say that this is the only beautiful area plenty of others are as well just the most renown portion I would say.
Thank you, we will definitely rent a car and do a day trip to Siena and that region.
