We all have favorites of the villages: ours is Monterosso because it has the largest amount of restaurants and services.

When are you going, and what sort of budget are you working with?

Hi Kathy,
We are going next May. Staying 3 nights, and because there are four of us, am wondering if we should do an apartment. My budget is flexible, but don't really want to spend more than 150 per night, hopefully a nice place for around 100/night?

$100 a night is pretty low for four people, especially if you want a view.

Someone here was just asking about this Manarola apartment ("Silvia 1" from A Casa Cinque):

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6583895

Two bedrooms, two bath, kitchen, and a nice rooftop terrace with sea view. It is at the top of the village in Manarola, which is our favorite village. Very scenic, car-free, with houses tumbling down to the sea like Vernazza but not as crowded. It is true that Manarola doesn't not have as many restaurants, etc. as Monterosso, but how many do you need in a two-night visit?

Hi Deb
I too am looking for accommodations in the CT but for the end of September. I have tried every place mentioned on the forum with no success as they are either booked or don't reply to my email. I am traveling solo this time and my needs are minimal... double bed and a clean bathroom and shower. Love Vernazza, but as someone above suggested Monterosso where we stayed might be a better option for you, plus traveling with a group the nightlife options would definitely be better. I'll keep watching your posting for ideas and if you find something that might fit my needs I'd appreciate a private message about it. Thanks.

Hi Deb,

We stayed in Monterosso & it's nice because it's the only village in the Cinque Terre with a sandy beach as well as the most restaurants & accommodations.

We stayed at 'Hotel Baia' conveniently located near the train station & on the waterfront: http://www.baiahotel.it

Jim, try La Spiaggia in Monterosso. It's very popular for reasonable rates and easy walking distance from the train station, and some rooms have balconies with a nice view of the water. Rooms are small and breakfast is basic but you couldn't ask for a better location and staff. They do fill very quickly though so it's possible they're already booked for your dates.

Deb, I'm reading that this same hotel has an apartment in a separate building so you could see if it is open for your dates?

Deb - Just FYI, I tried and tried to book a room for April 2016 in pretty much any price range and not one place would let me book. Many did not respond at all. A few responded and said that they would take bookings for April in late December. One single place said they would start taking bookings in September. I ended up choosing to go further south in Italy since I needed to end up in Rome for a flight back to the US and so I gave up. I didn't have any trouble booking lodging anywhere else for April this far out - I was successful in Venice, Positano and Rome.

I looked at it but didn't book. I try to always book direct. Since I rerouted us to Positano I haven't tried further.

I would also recommend Monteroso - did you look at tripadvisor.com, they list all the hotels, pensions, and inns.
Use the site just to get the names, locations and contact info and then you can deal with the hotel directly as you prefer.
Best of Luck.

As response can be spotty from small, family-run accommodations - not uncommon in CT - sometimes a booking site can be an easier way to go. I've used the site I've mentioned without any problems for booking hotels both in the U.S. and abroad.

I should mention that La Spiaggia takes payment ONLY in cash: another common practice among smaller hotels or B&Bs. Rooms may be reserved, however, on the booking.com website, or try to get ahold of them directly.

I highly recommend Monterosso - especially the old town. we stayed there in June this year. Loved it. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment (plus a sofa bed) called Il Portico through booking.com. Highly recommend it. Have a great time.
