I really want an Italing leather purse. Where can I go in Rome to shop? I heard there's lots of knock-offs so I have to be careful.

Lori... Well, there are certainly plenty of high end stores with brand name purses, so I know you would probably be safe there....but there are also lots of street vendors with leather purses and cheap prices...knock-offs? probably, but I bought a $40 beautiful leather bag in Rome and my friend bought a $1500 Louie Vitonne purse in Paris... I could have taken another trip on what she spent on that purse, and unfortunately hers is one of those styles that has knock-offs everywhere.... If you want a certain brand name you are best going to a store...

I have heard that it is illegal to buy from the people on the street who are selling knock-off designer items like purses, sunglasses, etc. A friend on a cruise was approached by the police right after her purchase and was given a fine/ticket of about $300.
Does anyone know if this is still true today?
