Where to say in Dolomites

Im going to Venice in Sept. then to the Dolomites to wrap up my trip with 3 days in the mountains - where should we stay? I hear Castelrotto (Kastelruth) is a gem - but Corvara has also been recommended. We would like to do some hiking (but not rock climbing) and prefer to be in a quieter/quainter village rather than a bustling town.
Suggestions? Thoughts?

Hi Nancy, I'd also say the Corvara area (Alta Badia), but doesn't have to be in Corvara. We stayed twice (10/06 and 9/09) at the Ciasa Montanara in La Villa, Alta Badia, about 10 min. from Corvara. Loved both our stays here. www.montanara.it www.altabadia.it www.altabadia.org If interested, here are links to some of our Dolomite pic's: http://www.worldisround.com/articles/355539/index.html http://www.worldisround.com/articles/324504/index.html http://www.worldisround.com/articles/351565/index.html

We stayed one night in the Alpe di Siusi at the Alpen Hotel. This was in 2007 and that hotel has since been renovated. This high alpine meadow would offer lots of hiking opportunities without the rock climbing. Alpe di Siusi is a quiet and relaxing place to stay for a couple of nights with some really nice views.
