We need to rent a car for our 3 week stay close to Sinalunga in September this year. We're flying into Rome first. Would it be best to rent a car in Rome and drive from there, or rent from some place close to Sinalunga? Your advice is appreciated!
You won't save much money if any by renting nearer, and you have the extra trouble of transfers. So I'd rent at the airport. This article with reviews of Italian rental car companies will help http://www.apathtolunch.com/2014/12/car-rental-company-reviews-for-italy.html Lowest cost is not the only consideration.
Thank you SO much! This site is really informative about a lot of issues and glad to have it as a reference!
syartist,
If you don't know how jet lag affects you, don't plan on a long drive after crossing six time zones. Chiusi is easy to get to and close to Sinalunga.
Thanks Henry. We'll be deaccelerating (if possible!) in Rome for 3 nights before heading to Tuscany. Will check out Chiusi too. Have you rented a car there, and if so, what was your experience? Thank you.
If you are in Rome first then there is no problem driving the distance.
You can rent in Rome ( at Tiburtina Starion is easier to exit town) or Chiusi.
syartist,
I have rented several times from Hertz (through Autoeurope) in Chiusi. Hertz is less than 100 meters from the train station. I have had no problems.
Thank you Roberto and Henry. Good to know!
