Taking the train to florence to spend time with friends that live there. Where is the BEST place to rent a car outside the City? After Florence, we are driving around and then ending up in Venice for one week, then back to Rome to fly home. All this is being done during the week of Christmas-January 5th. Also, looking for a hotel outside Florence (towards Bagno a Ripoli) to stay for 5 days. Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful.

Take a taxi to the airport and rent from there. The Autostrada entrance is just outside the airport.

We stayed at a wonderful bed and breakfast - La Limonaia - in Bagno a Ripoli. It's situated on a hill overlooking Florence - gracious hosts and charming accommodations. Loved it !!!!!!
