Where to renew our wedding vows in Rome?

Since we are taking the 15 day vacation in Europe. I was wondering if someone might know a place to renew our wedding vows in Rome? We are non-denominational. Nothing fancy. Just me and her. Doesn't have to be legal or anything.

This question has come up before, and we've learned, 1st thing to ask is:

are you Catholic? (hint: say yes, it's going to make things a lot easier)

Perhaps the Catholic and/or Italian view on this, is if it's not "legal or anything" it's not real, and if it's not real, why do it. Maybe they feel, why go off willy nilly renewing vows when the first ones are still in effect?

The general consensus on the "interweb" is that vow renewal seems to be a fairly rare happening in real world Italian Catholic churches. So you would seem to have a few choices:

  1. Polish up your Italian and find a smaller church where you could entice the parish priest with a donation to perform the "ceremony".

  2. hire an Italian wedding planner to arrange your vow renewal ceremony for you for a fee.

  3. My personal favorite.... each of you should secretly write out your vows. when you are in Rome, you would a lovely romantic place to look each other in the eye and recite your vows. then proceed to a wonderful dinner to celebrate.

No. Not catholic. Actual I am jewish and she is christian, but I just wanted to renew our 15 year vows in beautiful Rome. She is half italian and I was hoping to surprise her. If it isn't doable... it isn't doable.

It's a nice idea. The problem is that Rome is roughly 98% Catholic, at least in name. I've done some checking around on other travel forums and have confirmed what we've learned here over the years, that this us--surprising to some--a real challenge if you're not Catholic and married within the Church.

You could do something (suggested above) totally on your own, but in a public place and with the attendant lack of privacy--probably not what you had in mind.

Steve - IF you want to do a vow renewal ceremony with an officiant you certainly can even in Rome. I was just trying to suggest that arranging it on your own from over here or even there on short notice could be difficult.

But there are certainly plenty of companies and consultants available that will arrange for everything for you. since you are not actually getting married the process will have no paperwork hassles.

Just google wedding vow renewal in Rome

I knew someone was going to say that. It kinda does right now for me. This 1/2 month vacation through Europe is already costing me $10,000 plus dollars.
