Heading to Venice for a quick two nights before a week in Tuscany. We will have a car at the time and just wondering if any suggestions on where to park it safely and relatively inexpensively? I have read enough people's opinions that I won't make the mistake of staying on the mainland, but obviously the car is the issue. Thanks!
We may need to define "inexpensive". Public parking in large Italian cities is not cheap. The huge Tronchetto is the best place to park. 4,864 parking spaces. 21Euro/day to park according to their website.
Thanks for that Larry, that's not too ridiculous it certainly could be worse! Cheers
You could try the airport. About a year ago parking was 5 euro a day and it's about a 20 min ride into Paizzale Roma on the bus. Bus tix were something like 7-10 euro.
Can you alter your car rental plans to NOT have a car when you arrive in Venice and then rent a car in Venice as you leave for Tuscany?
I advise against Tronchetto. Nothing inherently wrong with it except the only way to reach it is pretty much via vaporetto. I prefer Piazzale Roma because it's easier to reach. Once upon a time we parked at Tronchetto because it was a couple euros cheaper but there was no vaporetto around the time we wanted to leave so we decided to walk back and holy crap, what a mistake. PR is much more centrally located. Just my two cents.
BTW, Ron, good luck finding parking at the airport for 5 euro a day now. I dropped my mother off there last weekend and paid 5 euros for two hours in the sosta breve. People on base are now forced to take a shuttle because parking has gotten so expensive.
Another problem with using Tronchetto or P-R is you have to drive over the causeway, which has a robot speed trap, and you'll get a traffic ticket 6 months after you get home plus 50 euro dinged off the credit card you rented the car with. Reports are that it is triggered at 5 km/hr over the posted limit.
www.parkopedia.com shows remote lot at the airport 7.50/day.
