I've booked a hotel at the beginning of the island, and an apartment at the end of the island (I'll choose 1 before I'm locked in). I asked the owner where I can park and was told to park at the beginning of the island which is quite a walk. It also seems that there are restrictions where you can drive and park if you're not a resident. Has anyone had experience with this?

Unless you happen to stay at a place with private parking, and there are a few, driving on the island is pretty much prohibited for non residents. There are a couple lots prior to crossing over as well as a couple just after you cross the bridge to the island. They are marked on Google maps.
