Where to go in Venice Gondola??

We are planning on taking the gondola during the evening. Where is the best place to start and end the gondola ride and where are the best places to cruise for romance. We will be on our honeymoon. Also, what is that average time for a gondola ride. Thanks Sarah

A gondola ride is about 20-30 minutes. They start and end in the same place. Most places to pick one up are near St. Mark's and they wind their way through the quieter back canals. I wouldn't want one that spends much time on the Grand Canal because it is too noisy. Apart from that, I couldn't say that any one route is best.

Just remember that a gondola ride during the day will run about 80 euros and at night, about 120 or more. If you want someone who sings it will run about 190 euros. A good place to pick up a gondola is near the Realto bridge. It will take you through the back alleys and the home of Marco Polo. 20 to 30 minutes is about how long it will take. Enjoy!!

We did the ride that Mark describes. It was 100E for up to 5 people. We were fortunate that a couple with their grandaughter made it 5. The ride was about 40 minutes and scenic. The gondolier wasn't anything special. But, you've got to do it once and they're waiting for you.

Sarah,

We took a gondola ride from Piazza Santa Maria Formosa. It was beautiful. Our gondola driver was wonderful, he pointed out a lot of things. It was also much cheaper. Any good map of Venice will show where the Piazza is. Not too far from St. Mark's.
