Hi Robert,
You could consider dividing the time between Venice and Verona if you haven't already been to Venice. If you have been to Venice, I'd vote for 3-4 days in the Cinque Terre.

Between those three, I would suggest Cinque Terre and Venice. However, to do that in 4 days would be tight, as one full day would be devoted to traveling between the two.

So, if you'd rather be more relaxed and laid back while getting the full experience for one of these places, I would recommend going to Venice if you have never been, with a possible daytrip on one of your days to Ravenna, Verona, or Padova. Venice is just different than any other place in the world, so it's unique and well worth the trip that way.

If you're looking to get more sights in and not quite get the full experience, you could very well do Venice for a couple of days and Milan for a couple of days to see the highlights of both. But, unless you want things to be tight, I would go to Cinque Terre on its own with only a few days to play with.

Sorry.
Obviously I did not state my question very well.
My family will be in Italy for 10 days.

We ares spending the last 6 of those days in Cinque Terre and then in Venice.

We are starting our time in Italy in Milan (2 days)

This leaves 4 days.

Where do we go/what do we do for the 4 days between Milan & Cinque Terre?
Thanks for your help.

Did I mention that I can't count?

Milan 1 Day
change cities 1 day
Here I have 2 full days (3 nights)
change sities 1 day
Cinque Terre 3 nights (2 full days)
Chinque Terre-> Venice 1 day
Venice - 3 night (2 full days)

My question is what to do between Milan and Cinque Terre. 3 nights - 2 full days.

Here's another option based on changing the order of your travel:

Milan--Verona--Venice--Cinque Terre--back to Milan.

Verona is a nice stop for 3 nights--the down-side is the 5-7 hour train trip between Milan and the Cinque Terre!

You might want to share the dates, since the season will influence where you want to go.

Thak you Michael for asking when - it is July. I've done a bad job of explaining things on this post. Our time in italy is part of a larger trip: Switzerland ---Italy --- Germany.

Venice is wonderful, but removed from many of the other good spots. I'd do either Siena or Lucca and the Cinque Terre - definitely the CT if the weather is nice, tho I loved my rainy day there last summer. You could have a day in Florence, then train/bus (get the express bus!) to Siena or Lucca, and then at least two nights and a hiking day in the CT. OR you could do Florence, a day in Milan, and go up to the lakes, just an hour or so north of Milan - I like the little lakeside town of Stresa.

OH,OK - just read your updated question. Verona has an interesting cathedral, but I like Montecatini with its walled hilltop town. From Milan I'd definitely go up to the lakes, Como and/or Maggiore - we loved the little lakeside town of Stresa with its wonderful 3 very different islands to visit.
