Just so you know... Romans eat out on NYE by the thousands and they dine late. We went one year at 9:00 pm and the crowds did not show up until 10:00 pm. They like to be there at midnight for teh toast, the party favors, the lentils. And they dress up!
And, unless the Italians have changed as a culture since I lived there in the 1960s, New Years Eve is a blowout, with folks dumping sofas and other furniture into the streets from their balconies as fireworks make coherent thought impossible. Or maybe that was just in Naples, but be prepared for excitement!
wbfey1. We never saw furniture thrown out but oodles of private fireworks shows from tiny balconies that went on until at least 1:00 am. So noisy and frankly frightening Cannot understand why there were not fires everywhere.
