Where to Eat in San Marco/Dorsoduro Venice - September 2017

Looking for *really good* food when we head to Venice for two nights in September. My husband and I love pretty much everything and will probably be staying in either San Marco or Dorsoduro neighborhood. We are thinking we may just do simple breakfast and/or lunch or more snack type things if they are markets that offer quick food 'on-the-go', to save room and money for some amazing dinners. We are only there two nights so we want to make it count!

Just FYI, but Venice is not famous for its food. In a flip variation on a common Italian expression about expensive restaurants ("You pay a lot, but you eat well), Italians will say of Venice "You pay a lot, but you eat poorly."

That said, we really enjoyed Paradiso Perduto in the Cannaregio district. Tons of locals, lively atmosphere (live music at times), decent food. Here are a few photos and a video clip taken before the lunch rush. https://flic.kr/s/aHsk2bsi7g

Thank you! We've been warned that the food is very expensive regardless of the quality, which is why I love getting opinions/suggestions so that we can try and choose something that will at least be a decent meal for what we will be paying. :)

My adult daughter and I ate at Taverna San Trovaso when we were in Venice Mar 2015. We found the food enjoyable and not terribly priced. It's in Dorsudoro, maybe 90 seconds walk from the Accademia vaporetto stop.

We were staying in Pensione Accademia and the desk there recommended this place. I am planning to be back in Venice in September and will likely make a return trip.
