I will be driving from Chianti to Rome at the end of August and would prefer to drop off the car outside of the city. Can anyone suggest a good drop off location with good train or bus service into the city? We will be staying in the Trastevere.
A lot of folks seem to opt for either Chiusi or Orvieto and then train into Rome.
One of the most popular places mentioned on this website is Orvieto. It's a short train ride from there to Rome.
We used Autoeurope to book and dropped off in Chiusi at Europcar's downtown office. The girl didn't speak any English but it was easy enough and the train station was right around the corner. Good coffee at the station too.
If you already know your itinerary, check to see what day of the week you'll drop-off. Many locations have reduced weekend hours.
We like to drop our cars off at the airport. We then take the Leonardo Express into Rome.
