Any recommendations for where we (4 of us) can check our bags the day we arrive? (flight arrives Wed morning 3/22). We would like to do some sightseeing outdoors and possibly also see the Borghese Gallery, but not sure if our luggage can be checked at the gallery. Also not sure what time makes sense to reserve Borghese Gallery tickets. Our rental is not available until 2 PM. Thank you! Also is it best to take a taxi for the 4 of us vs take the train from airport.
If you are arriving from the US, seeing the Borghese Gallery is probably a poor choice for that day.
Does your lodging not have some provision to store bags before check-in?
For the 4 of you the cost of a taxi is better than the train tickets and has the added benefit of 'door-to-door' service
The taxi is cheaper for 4 people (50€ vs 15€ per person by train).
The taxi can also you drop you off at the exact address where you need to be. The train can only drop you off at the train station.
If your rental cannot accommodate your bags before 2pm, bags can be dropped off at the train station’s luggage storage or you can also arrange for various door to door baggage service, such as RadicalStorage, Stasher, LuggageHero, NannyBag, and others.
Also what time are you landing? By the time you are done deplaning, clearing immigration, baggage claim, getting oriented, freshen up, having a bite for breakfast, getting to the city from the airport, way more than 2 hours, maybe close to 3 hours, are easily gone. You may not have all that time available for sightseeing.
Four people with luggage will need more than one taxi I think.
The authorities of Rome have set the taxi fares from Fiumicino airport to Rome Aurelian Walls (The historical center of Rome) in 50 euro.
The price includes the baggage and is for up to four passengers, and is valid for both directions: Fiumicino airport to Rome City, and Rome City to Rome Fiumicino airport.

Thank you all for the tips. We arrive 8:05 AM from US, and airbnb will only allow baggage drop if it's not rented the day prior, so we need a back up plan for the luggage.
I believe this is the URL for the official FCO web site: https://www.adr.it/fiumicino
You might try Stasher or other online luggage storage service - search for a location near your rental.
You might try leaving your luggage with a storage service - this place has 100 locations around Rome. That way you can sightsee as long as you want and then pick up the luggage on your way to your hotel. Here's one service I found.
Most hotels and B&Bs will let you store your bags there, until you come back to check in. And see if your hotel or B&B has a shuttle to pick up from the airport.

None of the hotels or any other type of accommodation in central Rome (that I'm aware of, anyway) offer shuttle service to/from the airport, although they will book you a cab or driver (not a free one) IF they offer that particular service. Also, the OP is staying in a rental apartment, not a B&B or hotel, and was told by their hosts that they "will only allow baggage drop if it's not rented the day prior." Not accommodating bag drops before check-in time isn't unusual for rental properties.
OP, stow the bags at the nearest location to your rental - see Jeff's link - or use one of the delivery services Roberto suggested. And there's always the left luggage office at Termini. :O)
