Where to buy fruit and fresh produce in Sirmione

Hello, travelers.

We plan to spend nine days in Sirmione (use it as base, exploring Garda), but I cannot find information about markets or places where we could buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Obviously restaurants are everywhere, but our diets heavily consist of fresh produce.

Any advice?

Thank you in advance!

If you google “Sirmione fruit market” you’ll see lots of options. It looks like there are a couple weekly markets, plus other grocery stores.

Any grocery supermarket or green grocer shop will have fresh fruit and vegetables. In the little peninsula where the historical center is probably there are mostly souvenir shops and other tourist traps, but as you go south away from the peninsula, there are several supermarkets of the Penny chain, the Coop chain, etc. I see they have a market on Mondays too, but also in the same area (not the touristy peninsula).

I once went on a day trip to Lake Garda from Verona, basically by bus. Spent the first several hours in Sirmione, visiting the Castle, that area was very touristy. Then I walked all the way out to the end of town, on the lake. This was mostly open space and residential, and then near the lake was a large complex of Roman ruins, an ancient (2000 years?) olive grove, and a small museum. Then I walked back to the commercial area and port, and caught a ferry on to my next stop, which was Bardolino. Altogether I spent maybe 5 or 6 hours in Sirmione, and it’s hard to imagine my spending 9 days there. Others on this forum have mentioned other interesting and attractive towns on Lake Garda, and may chime in here. All that said, I’m confident there are sources of fruits and vegetables in town, along with plenty of fish!

In general in Italy is plenty of greengroceries and fresh fruits and vegetables can be found in any supermarket. You will find it very easily even in Sirmione.
Since you tell that you will use Sirmione as a base to explore, I suppose you will use the car. In this case you will have the chance to hit to some farmers who directly sell their production on the street. In Italy is perfectly legal and allow to purchase something fresh and sometimes even cheaper. Usually are very simple places with a bench under a tent on the edge of the orchard. Others are bigger and they sell a wide range of fruit and vegetable. Very often is a good way even to know which products are seasonal and produced in the area you are travelling.

Again, thank you travelers.

We plan to spend two weeks in Italy, mostly at Sirmione. It is our third trop to Garda: before we stayed a week at Peschiera del Garda, and loved it. We know what to expect, Sirmione was not overlooked.

Having said that, I myself understand that my question may sound ridiculous, but…

We don’t plan to drive (due to the age and health restrictions). We plan to visit Verona again for a day trip, and a few towns by ferry. We plan to spend considerable amount of time at the thermal spa, as it provided us with great health outcome in the past. Our trip is not for sightseeing, but for rest and relaxation. So - be it!
