My wife and I (both in our 40s) booked our flights to Bari and renting a car. 14 days/13 nights and we're starting to get a feel for the trip. Want to spend about 50% of our time relaxing/beach/ocean and the other 50% experiencing culture/architecture/history. And 100% authentic Italian cuisine. After reading thru the travel forum and various travel blogs we plan to visit Ostuni, Alberobello, Matera, Lecce, Gallipoli, and Otranto (and some beaches).
Looking for recommendations on where to stay, thinking we could check-in 3 or 4 accomodations as needed. Recommendations on accomodations? Is it better to stay in cities or more remote in an agriturismo? We're excited for Italian cuisine, so we won't be cooking and a kitchen isn't needed.
EDIT
Really appreciate everyone's insights and recommendations. Our stay:
6 Nights in Lecce (Explore Gallipoli, Otranto, beaches)
3 Nights in Martina Franca (Explore Valle d'Itria, Alberobello)
2 Nights in Matera
2 Nights in Bari (day trip to Polignano a Mare)
This forum has truly helped shaped our travels and I am thankful to you all. I'll gladly take any restaurant recommendations or cultural experiences. I intend to visit a cheese-making masseria in Valle d'Itria as well as some vineyards.
