We've got only one day/night in Naples. Can someone recommend a good hotel in the best part of town? Thanks in advance.

I agree, and we are planning on staying in Sorrento for 4 nights following the weekend in Ventotene. HOWEVER, we fly in on the 16th in the a.m., and thought it might be nice to see the gritty city, stay one night in Naples, then catch the hydrofoil to Ventotene in the a.m.

You might have a look at This Hotel. It's in a relatively "safe" and pleasant part of the city (at least that was my experience). It's in the same building as one of the South American Embassies, so I'm assuming that's a good part of town. The staff at the Hotel were wonderful!

The best part of town is probably by the water which is where the main shopping district is.
We stayed at the Hotel Garibaldi across from the train station, which is clean but no frills if you're on a budget.
