Where does the BAG go?

On the Leonardo Express from Fiumicino to Rome's Termini Station: Do you check your luggage or does it go with, if so where do you put it? On Rome's Metro where do you put your bag? In the photos, the cars look so narrow. It looks as though the passenger's knees are almost touching. Once while in St Louis, I had a terrible experience on the Metro, after following the agent's direction. If at all possible I want to avoid any problems. I will appreciate any info offered. Thanks for reading these questions

On both the Leonardo Express and the Metro you keep your luggage with you. On the LE, you can put it on the overhead rack. On the Metro, you just keep it near your feet. More about each of those here, from the incredibly helpful RonInRome: Leonardo Express The Metro in Rome Happy travels

Hi Sherry
Can I ask how many are in your party and how many bags you'll have? If you're not by yourself and/or you have more than one bag you might want to consider using a taxi which is 40 euros from FCO to pretty much any location in the city center.

The L Express is primarily for airline passengers so it has a large luggage in the middle of the car. The subway is for locals so no racks for luggage so just keep it with you.

In addition to the suggestion of taking a cab from the airport to your hotel, you could also consider taking the Leonardo Express, then a cab from Termini Station. Depending on where you hotel is, how many are in your party, and how many bags you will have, you may not only find it more convenient to take a taxi at some point, but it may not even cost much more money. Your St. Louis experience may be repeated on the Rome Metro; it's a commuter line, not designed for carrying anything of large size.
