My husband and I are traveling to Italy in late May. We need a place to stay on our way from Florence to Positano. Any ideas? What about Assisi? We have never traveled to Italy so we need some good travel advice. We have heard that we need to stay on the main road for ease of travel to Positano and Assisi seems to be on the way. Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you driving in Italy or taking the train? That would influence where you stay. (If you're considering driving, let me try to persuade you to do the train instead. It's hard to get lost on a train.) Assisi is absolutely beautiful. Here are some photos I took when we were in Assisi in May 2008. Do stay in the historic center if you stay there (and it really deserves two nights). It will be beautiful in May. I'm assuming you've bought the RS Italy guidebook to get tons of good advice about traveling there. Happy travels.
