Where did you stay in Venice? Need recommendation for next week

Hello, and thank you to everyone who responds!

I'm leaving next week for Venice for a couple of days, and need a place to stay. I've been reading the recommendations in RS 2008 Venice book, then cross referencing them with www.tripadvisor.com reviews,,,,,but I would really like to get some RS Traveler's Helpline opinions.

I'm looking for a hotel that is just around $150, quite, but not too far from St. Mark's. Perhaps Accademia area? Train station looks to far. Again, thanks!!

There are many cheap accomodations tho many MORE expensive ones in Venice.
There is a resource online called Eileen Barish's Lodging in Italy's Monasteries, which has some Venice places. We think the Casa Cardenale is about 60€ per person. There are others and more in the book

This is where we stayed and LOVED it. It's pretty new and renovated all inside. The owners are awesome and very nice and speak english. It seems far from St. Mark's on the map but maybe only about a 10 minute walk once you figure out where you're going! :o)

I stayed at pensione Accademia and loved it. It's right near the vaporetto stop an easy walk to St Marks. Clean, good breakfast and helpful staff. I thought it was good value but don't know if it will be within your budget. Check out the prices on venere.

Try Albergho Doni. Havent stayed there yet but am booked there for next week.

Did a lot of research and it seems to offer the best price 60 Euro at the best location (near St Marks)

Carolyn - We loved the Al Teatro B&B (only 3 rooms). Right on a canal. Room availability on such short notice may be iffy. If you can get it, go for the Amber Room (has a balcony). Great location - 5-10 min. from St. Mark's.

Carolyn,

We stayed at the Locanda Antica Venezia in May of 2006 and enjoyed it. It's a few minutes walk to St. Marks Square but in a quiet area and near to restaurants. Here is the info:

Hotel Riva. http://www.hotelriva.it/

Just stayed there on 9/1/08.

Couldn't beat the price (right around 150us) and the staff was wonderful. We didn't spend much time in the room (nothing fancy but very clean), but whenever we did, it was spent gazing out our window down onto the tiny canal with gondoliers passing by!

You can be in St. Marks in less than a 3 minute walk. Train station is a simple water taxi ride away.

I highly recommend Hotel Riva.

Locanda al Leon! About e125 per night with a decent breakfast, and a TREMENDOUS location five minutes from St. Mark's. So clean, beautiful and friendly. Been there twice this year.

If you're going to be in Venice next week that doesn't give you a lot of time. Use www.venere.com and book instantly.

I stayed at Hotel American-Dinesen and thought it was great.

Very easy to get to and quiet at night, yet very easy 15 minute walk to San Marco.

We stayed at Albergo Guerrato, which is not far from the Rialto Bridge and market, in 2005 and it was very nice. www.pensioneguerrato.it

In 2007 our family of 4 stayed in one of Hotel Campiello's apartments, which were new in 2007, and(the Bucintoro) just a few minutes walk from St. Mark's off the Riva. (just around the corner from Albergo Doni) The apt. was beautiful and just a few steps from the hotel. I have heard very good things about the hotel too. www.hcampiello.it

In 2002 we stayed at Hotel Rialto right on the Grand Canal which came with a great view of the Grand C. but with a heftier price too.
