Where did you buy European maps for your GPS?

I've been looking online, and just Amazon has the European City Navigator available for all different prices. Made me start wondering if they are all the same.......

Where did you buy yours, and are you happy with it?

Also, what GPS are you using?

Thanks!

They do (I think - haven't checked them), but on Amazon they have them from $35 up to $80 - with the same description...... I'd rather pay $35 since it's probably the only time we'll be going over there, if it's the same thing.

Too bad you can't just "borrow" the map, like checking out an ebook from the library! :)

I bought maps for a Garmin from Amazon, they were a bit cheaper than direct from Garmin. But, be sure to check the date of the maps you're buying and make sure you are getting the current version. Many of the very cheap packages are cheap as they are outdated.

I bought it on Amazon a couple of years ago. I have a Garmin Nuvi so I bought the Garmin Europe City Maps. On Amazon it was cheaper than directly on the Garmin website. I don't really use it much except for when I am inside cities I don't know well. For out of city traveling I rely more on Google Maps on my IPhone, paper maps, and old fashioned road signs. Garmin is not 100% error free. Sometimes I tested its accuracy in Florence, which I know like my back pockets, and the route selected isn't always the one I would choose. Occasionally it was plain wrong.

If you have a smartphone save yourself the expense of buying a gps unit and buy sygic for your phone. It It is a gps app that you use offline so no data charges.

I haven't purchased Euro map yet, but will be soon for a trip to France...ours is a Garmin and here in Canada, from the 'official' site they were upwards of $100. There are lots on ebay for about $25. Ebay is where I will be buying mine. The one I was looking at has hundreds of positive reviews...

Theresa,

I also bought a Garmin Nüvi and chose a model that had both North American and European maps installed. I've updated them once, but not sure if I'll bother updating again as the unit I'm using has now been discontinued and may not be supported any longer.

Spent 15 days in Italy this March and only used Google Maps on my iPhone. It found everything we were looking for and got us to and from the places we needed to go. Bought an Italian SIM card for my phone that had 4 GB of data and we were all set. If we chose to rent a car and drive somewhere, Google Maps would have done that too. iPhone or Android, it should work.
