Where can i found a reasonably priced tour of Herculaneum?

We are staying in Sorrento. We want to visit Herculaneum. Viator has no tours the day we are going. WE have not been able to find a
tour of the site - meeting a guide there - except for one that will cost us $400 for both. This will of course not include our transportation to get there.

We are willing to buy a tour that includes transportation but cannot find one either. Any ideas?

Have you considered seeing the site as a do-it-yourself trip (you can get some background material to read up on beforehand)? Also, It is very easy to get there via local train (Ercolano Scavi stop) - IMHO, it's not worth paying for transport since it's so easily accessible.

You are probably more likely to find a tour out of Naples (that likely combines Herculaneum and Pompeii) since Naples is a much a larger hub than Sorrento. Something like this:

Herculaneum is a relatively small site, easy to find your way around without getting lost or disoriented. I used their audio guide and thought it was quite sufficient. Note that from the Circumvesuviana train, it's a downhill walk of about 10-12 minutes, along the main street, to the entrance.

Agree with Chani, this site is easy to do on your own w/audio guide. The last time we were there, there was a private guide we however didn't inquire the price

Hey guys,

Thanks for responding. It made us think through things a bit more.
