When will the Varenna-Bellagio ferry May timetables be posted?

Hello,

I'm trying to take advantage of the super economy train prices for my May trip. The timetables currently listed only go through Mid March. Does anyone know when they will post the May schedules? I am looking at taking an 830 train out of Varenna on a Sunday and I want to be sure there will be some early ferries.

Thanks!

Kristen,

Since the current ferry timetables are valid until March 25th, the new timetables will most likely come out on March 25th.

When I checked the ferry schedule (select the route & time you desire) for Sunday March 19, there is a ferry departing Bellagio at 7:25AM, and arriving in Varenna at 7:40AM.
As you may already know, you can easily walk up to the train station from the ferry dock.

When the timetables come out, you will see multiple times when the ferry travels from Varenna to/from Bellagio.
There is also a car ferry traveling this route, and you can embark that ferry even if you don't have a car.

Enjoy your trip!

Kristen,

The trains from Varenna to Milan are Regionale trains so there are no "Super Economy" tickets for those. If you're travelling on one of the fast trains after you reach Milan, then discounted fares should be available.

Thanks Ken and Priscilla!!

I am specifically interested in knowing how early the ferries start on Sundays in Bellagio so I know how early I can leave Varenna. There is an 830ish train leaving Varenna, change in Milan, that would out me in Rome before 1. I want to know if I should be able to make that train. And I would prefer to buy tickets now, not March 25th, so I can get the super economy fair from Rome to Milan.

Again, I would assume the there are only MORE ferries, not less, as the season gets busier so I think I am just going to buy the tickets when they become available and hope for the best.

Yes, there will be several ferries traveling the Bellagio < > Varenna route in May.

Just wondering...Have you considered staying in Varenna instead of Bellagio?

Hi Priscilla,

I see on the forums, Varenna tends to be more popular in the Varenna vs Bellagio discussion. But I booked my Bellagio hotel awhile ago, on a whim. It was a situation where I came across a picture of the hotel on someone's travel page and thought "I must stay there" and then had some really nice conversations over email with the owner. I will be solo on this leg of the trip so I liked that there seems to be a little more going on in Bellagio. But I will be there for four nights so time for me to explore some other areas. And if I fall in love with Varenna....darn it, I will just have to go back!

Kristen,

Thanks for the explanation, it makes good sense.

When you visit Varenna, make sure to walk on the beautiful lakeside passerella, and eat the delicious gelato at Gelateria Riva (Yum!)

Enjoy!

Edit to add...

There is also a very small shop on the passerella that sells unique jewelry & ceramic souvenirs. I purchased a couple of hand made ceramic angel ornaments, and my mom fell in love with a beautiful bracelet.
