When to Reserve Tickets for Florence - Uffizi & Accademia

When should I reserve tickets for the Uffizi & Accademia? Is it better to reserve these in the middle of the day when the city is more crowded (so I've heard)? Or is it better to reserve these for early morning/late afternoon? Our itinerary for the day is to visit both of these & wander around Florence.
Also, how long would you recommend between the ticket reservations? We are not art connoisseurs but we will not race through either. Is a couple hours in between long enough?

Thanks for any help you can give!

If you do Accademia first, a couple of hours between them will suffice. Not in the reverse order. In two hours you barely walk through Uffizi halls.

Accademia we secured morning reservations. Easy to knock-off and you'll have the rest of the day to do whatever. You'll spend an hour to 90-minutes, two hours would be stretching it. I think we spent as much time in the gift shop as we did actually checking out David.

Uffizi I've gone in the mornings and felt it was a crush of organized tour groups. The next visit was in the afternoon, I think around 3 or 4, and that was nice, wasn't terribly crowded like the mid-morning times. You'll spend at least 2-hours minimum there, 3 is more realistic as you walk through the halls and exhibits.

Very realistic to visit Academia in the morning, enjoy a leisurely lunch and stroll, then visit the Uffizi the same day in the afternoon.

Now I'm confused. I keep reading that it's best to go to the Uffizi early to avoid crowds?

I agree with most of the posters on this subject that Uffizi early morning. As to Accademia we never did get a reservation. We happened to walk by our first afternoon there at around 4.30 and there was no one there. We paid and walked right in and only 3 other people were there so had David almost to ourselves. The entry fee was the same as on line.

I’d go first thing early morning to one and then early morning first thing to the other. If you must do both the same day, I would recommend Uffizi first. Reserve for the 8:15 opening time and get there between 745-8 to get in line at the reserved door, but it’s really best if you can do them on different days. We got to Accademia around the same time, wound up as the second group in line, and essentially had 2-3 minutes with David by ourselves. Definitely don’t shoot for mid morning or afternoon as that will be the most crowded time.

If you have to do them on the same day, alot 3-4 hours for the Uffizi. Accademia is a good 15 minute walk from there so then I’d reserve Accademia late afternoon. Gives you time to wander in between.
