To purchase Super Econ tix for September, do I need to wait until mid-June when Trenitalia updates schedules? Or do I just start checking every day when we are 120 days away from travel time? Thank you!
Most of the Freccia schedules are up, so you can buy as soon as it is inside the 120 day window. When I last checked a week ago, IC trains still were not up yet.
I just bought a ticket (IC) for August 4, so they are in process, September should be available soon.
When the schedule is posted, you buy. 120 days is a guideline. If early, buy early.
Maybe I am doing something wrong....I went on Trenitalia.com and tried to find the schedule for the regionale/IC from Varenna-Esino to Monterosso in August for comparison (our travel date will be Sept. 8), but no results were shown. I tried July, same thing. The only routes I could find were prior to June 12.
Any words of wisdom?
Hi Jill. I know it can be confusing / frustrating. For trains after June 12: most / many of the freccia trains are already shown; the IC (Intercity) and regional trains will appear gradually. However, for IC and regional trains (e.g. Varenna to Monterosso), just look at the schedule for the same day of the week in the first week in June. The schedule for September will be similar or exactly the same as what is now shown for the first week in June. Since you aren't traveling until Sept, you will have plenty of time to look at sched and buy advance IC tix if desired for MIlan to Mont. Don't buy regional tix online; there are no discounts, and it is to your advantage to wait and buy those at any station in Italy at your convenience. Make sense?
You are not doing anything wrong. Just wait. Patience. Regionale train schedules are the last to post. It is just an updating process and the Italians are slow about it mainly because it doesn't make any difference. Schedules don't change much from period to period. If you need to see the schedule use the same day next week or week after. Price should be the same from now until Sept. Fare increases generally go into effect on Jan 1. Second, there is no discount for Regionale trains so you buy Regionale tickets in the station a day or two or an hour before you go. Third, discounts on IC is small to the point that I would buy IC tickets as you need them.
