When to Book Train Tickets

Hi,

My fiance and I are heading to Italy for our honeymoon in early August and are in need of some train advice! We are flying round trip to Rome from the US and are set to arrive at 9:15AM, but we're actually starting our trip in Venice. We want to book a train, but I'm curious what time we should plan to buy tickets for in order to give us ample time to collect our checked luggage and make it into the train station in Rome. Would we be alright buying tickets for an 11:30 or 11:50 train?

Thanks!

This is a common question on this forum, if you want to search for answers above about FCO or Rome airport. Rather than buy an advance ticket that you might not be able to use (in case of flight delays), I would buy tickets at the station upon arrival. They will likely cost about $100 per person, which is the full-fare rate for the cheapest class of service on the fast train.
