I work at a winery in Napa and this year's harvest was the earliest in history. I know the white wines are harvested earlier (TODAY for my winery) and was wondering if anybody was in the know about that for the Cinqueterre area, as I'll be there in early September. We were hoping to be there for harvest.
This July was the hottest in Italian history with records going back before 1800. August seems to be following suite. The harvest is usually in mid September, but anything goes with such heat. The terms to search for are vendemmia sciacchetrà or Cinque Terre DOC, which will also turn up an interesting You Tube video. Nearby is the scenic Colli di Luni DOC with both red and white (Vermentino) which may be later. Look at http://cantinelunae.it which is one of the only wineries with a store.
Cool, thanks for the info!
Ask the person or place you are staying with in the CT that question also.
