When in Venice, Eat Like a Venetian

Here’s an article from today’s NY Times recommending some cicchetti places in Venice.

Interesting and good story.

I know and frequent the first three - my favourite the first, although I never knew that the woman always at the sandwich counter is the owner - I usually deal with one of the men who deals with my English better - my Italian always goes out the windown in there and I know very little Venetian dialect.

The other 4 were good sounding - not sure about some of the food combinations on the one trying to be very modern and cosmopolitan - and I will try all of the 4 when next there sometime this summer or spring.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Great article. I was pleased I did my research and visiting Venice for the first time last year, we had only one sit-down meal. The rest of the time we went cicchetti hopping, mingling with native Venetians (how do they exist? afford to live there? I guess people probably think the same thing of San Franciscans these days) and had a wonderful, affordable time.

Other than that, Kaeleku, are you having a good day?

The good places to eat are far from Piazza San Marco. As for too many tourists, I go in the winter. There are very few. Just before Christmas is glorious in Venice. I love going to dinner at Osteria Al Schiavoni, on Calle del Dosse.

7am in San Marco is dead...10pm on San Marco is dead...just plan accordingly

Thank you very very much for the link to the NYT article. We are hoping to get very lost in the back areas of Venice.

Venice has about 52,000 residents and receive about 20,000,000 visitors a year. Residents usually have a kitchen and tourists don't. No wonder there are more tourists eating out.

There is real living in Venice that most visitors don't see.
