When does weather get bad in the Dolomites

Our friends are suggesting an AirBnB up in the Dolomites. The particular place is in the mountains, accessible only by 4 wheel drive. The owners came down and picked our friends up because they had only a regular car. They went in July and loved it. We’ll be there in October. My first thought is October is too late to plan the area. Last time I was there was mid-October and it didn’t seem too bad. We chose to visit Verona then over to Venice south of the mountains.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Brad

I live in the Alps but further west of the Dolomites: you said just thoughts so here they are....
October in the Alps can be incredibly beautiful with mild sunny days and autumn colours or wet and depressing as the days get shorter.
Personally I wouldn't want to be somewhere I couldn't get to and from independently unless you are planning on staying at your accommodation most of the time and using it as a base for hikes or if the weather is bad reading and relaxing.
Is there some form of heating? You'll need it at least in the evenings.
The atmosphere in the mountains is very different in July when maybe it's too hot anyway to contemplate sightseeing.
All things considered, for an October stay even if your friends thought that accommodation was fantastic (have you got the same tastes, interests, requirements?), I'd base in a town convenient for the mountains if the weather's good, but accessing a city or something to see if it's not.

Those are very helpful thoughts. Thank you. I think our interest would be relaxation, views, and light hiking. It sounded good to me because I’ve never paused in the Dolomites and our friends couldn’t praise the hosts enough.
