Can we just go to the station on Sept 9 and likely get tickets on a Monday?
Or should we order ahead on-line?
We are flexible on when we need to leave.

If you buy nonrefundable train specific tickets now, you can save up to 50%. Check both operators, Trenitalia, and Italo Treno.
Right now, I see Trenitalia has a 2 for 1 deal on the 9:48 departure. Italo has the same deal for the 10:43 departure for a bit less money.
But yes, you can just go to the station and buy tickets and pay full price. 152 EUR for 2 in Economy from Trenitalia and 139.80 for 2 on Italo. Direct trains take 3 hours.
