When arrive at FCO for return flight?

We have a 10:30am United flight back to the US on Monday and will not be checking any bags. Any suggestions as to when we should arrive at the airport?

Also, I understand it is about a 45 minute taxi ride from the historic area to FCO. Is that correct?

Thanks!

On our Rome trip last fall, we booked a taxi for the morning we flew home, to get us to FCO 3 hours before the plane took off. We stayed in the historic Testaccio district, just west of the Circus Maximus, and the taxi only took a half hour - but that was before the sun had even come up, and there was very little traffic. Boy, those painful early morning flights!

I’d think allowing 45 minutes (starting for the airport at 6:45) will get you to the airport at the right time, even though you’re not needing to check bags. At least Italy’s got good coffee, and this is a time most people will need some!

We flew home from FCO to ORD on Nov. 8, the first day that the U.S. travel ban on international tourists was lifted. It was expected to be a chaotic day at the airport so we made sure we were going to be there 3 hours before flight time. A cab picked us up at our hotel in Trastevere at 8:30 a.m., and by 9:00 we were being dropped off at the airport. By 10:00 a.m. we were all the way through the health screening line, check in line, security line, passport control line, and sitting in the gate waiting for the flight. Things went super smoothly for us that day, despite it being the first day that Italians were able to fly to the US for non-essential reasons. The cab cost 50€. Our hotel arranged it for us.
