Hi,
Does anyone know if the larger museums in Florence in Rome (Uffizi, Vatican, Borghese Gallery, etc) have wheelchairs available for use? I will be traveling with my Mother who is semi-handicapped and unable to stand for long periods of time but she would like to visit these museums. Thanks for the help.
I cannot speak to the accessibility of the museums, but I wonder if their websites would have that information. I think I always see it when I am searching through the visitors' information section.
Did a Google search and the following website seemed very useful: http://www.aboutflorence.com/accessible-florence.html.
Others have posted that the folding chair/cane thing (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ONSKSU/ref=asc_df_B002ONSKSU975634?smid=A2HVC8I3TTA3R&tag=nextag-hpc-mp01-delta-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B002ONSKSU) works well as an alternative option to a wheelchair (sorry the link is long, not sure how else to do it).
I know the vatican has wheelchairs you can borrow. They are on a first come first served basis.
I don't know if the Borghese gallery has or allows wheelchairs. I do know that they have an elevator for those who have problems with the stairs and there are benches and chairs in most of the rooms. There is also a small snack bar in the basement where you purchase your tickets.
