I'm planning to bring one roll-on, one backpack, so obviously I won't be bringing many shoes. Would something like the Sketcher's Mary Janes do for the walk between the towns. Campmor also has pricier J-41s ones in that style. I have great "hiking" boots, but don't want to bring that kind of weight for just 3 days. Thanks....
OK ` I just saw the "best walking shoe" board and will look there. Any quick ideas here welcome tho' as well!
You won't need hiking boots for CT walks. While flip-flops are too flimsy and likely to break on the trip, I've seen people wearing them. Anything from tennis shoes to regular walking shoes will work well. We wore trail runners (brought because they looked less like plain tennis shoes) and they worked great. The trail is mostly a flat dirt trail (sometimes wider, sometimes narrow), with regular climbing up and down the equivalent of rock stairs.
I wore Tivas, and they were just fine for the trails.
I wore Keen mary-jane style and did the entire trail, no problems (other than dust, it was dry). If it's wet, be careful, the trails are slippery regardless of your footwear.
I have been to Ct twice now and wore Tivas. Another great place to look for Tivas or walking shoes is in the LLBean Catalogue
Thanks so very much everyone - it's a relief really, to know I don't have to worry about hiking boots or the like. On the "shoe" page, I saw a lot of mentions of Keen and Tevas(especially the Mary Jane styles.)You know, gotta keep those shoes looking good!
for just 3 days you'll be fine with any hiking sneaker. ecco is great. dont go cheap . you'll regret it.
My Mom just bought the Sketcher's shoes and she loves them. I also just bought a pair of Merrall shoes just like the Sketcher's. I LOVE THEM. Merrall's you will have to find a good deal on. They can run about $90 bucks a pair. However, I found a deal and they were $90 bucks for 2 pair. They are a little more formal looking than the sketcher's. However, both the sketcher's and Merrells will get the job done for looking nice and not having your feet hurt which is what happened to me last time I was in Rome.
