What type of Disability documents are required in Rome?

We will be in Rome for 1 week. I will be Using an electric wheelchair most of the time. I can walk short distances and climb stairs very slowly. A lot of post state that disability docs. Are required for elevators or ‘free’ Entrance. Where do I get the Documents?

My husband is blind and travels with a guide dog. Most of the time he does not have to show documentation for free entry. Sometimes he does show documentation for the guide dog, such as for going to the Vatican museums. He has an ID card from the guide dog school identifying the dog and him as the handler. Since you use an electric wheelchair I doubt you will be asked for documentation.

If you have a handicap placard then you should have documentation for the use of that placard which may be acceptable.

Typically when we would stand in lines for museums in Italy we were plucked out of the line and ushered in.
