What town between Verona and Assisi?

We will be traveling from Verona to Assisi by train. We thought that we would like to stop over for 4-5 hours at some place along the train route and visit this town. We have already been to Florence, and want to visit some place different this trip. What would be your suggestions. Would like to be able to store our luggage. A few names come up on the map, Bologna, Arezzo. Thanks for your help.

Have never stopped off on the train like that, but have been to both Bologna and Arezzo. Of the two, I think Arezzo is more charming and fun to do in 4-5 hours. If you like art, check out the amazing fresco cycles by Pierro de la Francesca. The town itself is easily walkable, has interesting churches etc. to look at, lots of antique stores, and good food. You could easily spend 2 hours at a nice lunch, for example. There's even the remains of a Roman ampitheater. For photo ideas: http://www.lodgephoto.com/galleries/italy-tuscany-arezzo/ Mathew

Mathew do you remember if you can store your luggage at the train station in Arezzo?

Gubbio near Assisi is definitively worth the detour.

I was surprised to find that Arezzo does NOT have a baggage storage facility: Tuscan train station amenities Look under "Deposito Bagagli" for Arezzo. In Tuscany, apparently only Pisa and Florence have baggage storage.

Michael thanks for the info and web site. Do not want to carry luggage for 4-5 hours. May have to re-think stopping over. Could still do day trips form Assisi, we are going to be there 4 nights
