What tour goes on the upper outside of the cathedral in Florence, but not up to the duomo?

I hope this makes sense. I’m sitting on the balcony of my little Airbnb, looking at the duomo and there are people (clearly tourists, not workers) walking around the outside part of the cathedral just below the dome part, that is, where the long rectangular part of the building is. I wasn’t aware you could go there. Can someone tell me what ticket gets you there? I won’t have time to do it this visit, but next time for sure.

Also, the Arnolfo Tower climb and the secret passages tours at Palazzo Vecchio were amazing!

Thanks all!

There may be another way to get to the terrace, but it was part of a tour we did with Walks of Italy in 2017 - called 'VIP David & Duomo Tour: Early Accademia Tour & Skip the Line Dome Climb with Exclusive Terrace Access'. So might be more than you would want, including other sites. The tour ended on the terrace and we could then decide if we wanted to walk up to the top of the Duomo ourselves (We did). We enjoyed the tour.

just to be clear on terminology - cathedral in English = Duomo in Italian. They mean the same place. Duomo does not mean the dome above the cathedral.

Nigel, thanks for the lesson. That was one more thing I didn’t know.

I’m sitting in an airport waiting out my layover, but I appreciate the info on the tours. Once I’m home and rested, I’ll have to look at this more closely.

Have a great day everyone!
