I am traveling to Tuscany the first week in May. First time to Italy. Will capri's for women be ok? What about men...do they wear shorts? They weather channel says highs around 75 degrees. Thanks
OK for what?
Tuscany in May is comfortably warm for shorts, most days. Whether or not you want to wear them has been endlessly debated here. Italian men do not. Tuscany, apart from Florence is pretty rural, so fashion is a low priority concern.
Oh, and by the way, in the urban centers last year, it was the men who wore Capris...
Doug is right; usually Italian men do not wear shorts, although, in the more rural areas, some wear knee length bermudas with dressy sandals and no socks. be prepared for the occasional sudden downpour midday. btw, Italian women don't wear shorts either!
We usually travel in May, been to Italy several times and I've always worn capri pants, my hubby has worn shorts. (longer ones, to the knee, not baggy "surfer" type) We are tourists, we dress nicely, we aren't there to work, so we wear what is comfortable for travel. My husband never goes to dinner in shorts, but wears his chino pants.
Do take a light rain jacket, it can be used for rainstorms, or for cooler nights.
I like to travel with a light cotton sweater that I can throw over my shoulders (very Italian) or wear to layer, and a pashmina to "dress up"
Lately I've been taking a linen skirt and have found several times to wear it - dinner at night to "dress up" after a day of sightseeing, or even during the day to be cooler. I like the way linen wrinkles, so I like the way it travels.
