What to wear end of May/first week of June?

My fiance and I are starting off our honeymoon in Italy at the end of May. We will be arriving in Rome and traveling through Florence to Venice during the first week of June. What do you recommend for clothing? Thanks!

Unfortunately, weather sites and averages does not answer your question. Whenever you travel you need to prepare for a little bit of everything. Conventional advice is that it will be warm to hot. On our first trip to Rome four years ago during the first week of June, we followed conventional advice and damn near froze to death. We only brought light weight clothing and short sleeves BECAUSE everyone said that Rome would be hot.

One evening was so chilly that the sidewalk cafes did not open. A year later we returned at exact the same time. Since we were better prepared it was super HOT and humid, of course, we had no need for the long sleeve shirts and jackets that we brought. So have at least a long sleeve and a light sweater that you can wear under the rain jacket if it is cool.

The weather is unpredictable so planning accordingly. It could be hot, could be cold, and it might rain.

Hi Laura,

I was there mid-end May last year to all of the places you mentioned and it was HOT. Seriously like 80-90 degrees every day. Plus you spend most of it walking around which makes you even hotter. I don't know if that's a typically may...could have just been a fluke thing but it was definitely hotter than what I was initially thinking (even warmer than when I looked up on weather.com the day before).

At night it would cool down but all I needed was a pashmina or cardigan.

I wore tank tops or light t-shirts and either a skirt or gauchos/capris every day.

Hope that helps!
