What to wear end of April/early May??

We are going to Italy the last week of April/first week of May. What will the weather be like and what would be ideal to pack for clothing? Thank you!

I have heard from a person who lives in Italy that the best way to dress is to dress in layers. Sometimes it gets warm and evenings can get a little cold.So if you dress in layers you can peel on and put on as required.
Hope this helps

This depends where you are going. It will still be chilly at night and in the morning in most Italian cities. Afternoons may be sunny and on the warm side, but I would pack pants and long sleeves to be sure. Pack a spring jacket as well. If you will be traveling in the mountains region, pack sweaters too!

Where are you going? I was there in the same time frame on a RS tour - we had snow in the Dolomites and it was 80 in Rome, plus it rained. I agree that you should take layers - a lightweight, waterproof coat to top them off. I took a lightweight cardigan sweater, but didn't ever need anything heavier.

I agree to dress in or take layers. I've been in Italy a couple of times in the spring (April/May). The first time, the weather was like normal and by the end of April/early May the weather was warm enough where short sleeves was all I ever needed. The second time, a couple of years ago, the locals were calling it something like an extended winter or extended spring (they have a phrase for it) because even in mid to later May, it was still surprisingly very chilly, even in Tuscany (and I don't get cold very easily..). I needed long sleeves every day. But, that was just one 'off' year, so if it's like normal again this year, it should warm up enough, but I'd take layers just in case.

I was in Italy a few years ago from April 15-30 and the weather ranged from cool and pleasant (Venice, Florence) to warm (Rome). Nights were all beautiful...we slept with our windows open, and days were cool in the morning warming by afternoon, then cooling again. Spring in Italy is a great time to go. We were there for 2 wks and had only one full day of rain/clouds, and another with just a rain shower then it cleared by evening.

I'm going around the same time too and of course had the same general question. I don't want to overpack but am finding it hard to plan for daytime clothing for trekking around cities and hiking, as well as more dressed up clothing for evenings out. Are there any good shoes out there that work really well for most occasions (I'm thinking maybe some kind of brown sneaker or athletic ballet flats, depending on whether it is warm enough then for capris vs. long pants). What about evenings- warm enough for dresses? That would be great as it is so easy to toss a couple into the suitcase!
