We're spending 3 nights in Toarmina and we have 2 days and nights to see the southeast before crossing over to see Enna and 4 nights in Palermo. Can someone please recommend how to spend 2 days: Siracuse, Noto, Ragusa, Modica...
Two days is barely enough time to see Siracusa and Noto. There's no time for Ragusa and Modica unless you were to take a night from Taormina.
Thanks for your advice Giovanna. We didn't realize there were that many sights in either city. What would you recommend we "not miss" in both of these sights? Carol
Hi Carol, I'm planning a trip to Sicily for next year so have been doing a lot of research. It appears that Siracusa can easily fill 2 days, and Noto makes a good half day trip from there. Ragusa and Modica are further away and we won't have a car, so they didn't make our list. Siracusa has an excellent archaelogical museum, a greek theater, and lots of charming piazzas. I think Noto is mostly about wandering around and enjoying the Baroque flavor of the town. Depending on the time of year you will be there, boat tours around Siracusa are also a popular activity.
Carol, since you are going all the way to Sicily it would benefit you greatly to buy or borrow a good guide book. There is so much to see that it would be huge loss if you depend only on suggestions from here. By the way, I can recommend to you a really good restaurant in Taormina ... Il Giardino, via Bagnoli Croci 84, right across from the "English" Garden. The owner speaks 5 languages, one being English, and the food is excellent.
When you're going from Taormina over to Palermo, if you can you should try to see the Villa Romana del Casale - which is not far from Enna - and the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. IMO they are two of the greatest sites to see in Sicily.
The Villa Romana will be closed from October to March.
Thanks everyone for your great suggestions.
