We will be at a hotel in Sirmione Sept2-5. Any "must see" places around the lake? We will not have a car, but plan to take advantage of the ferry. Any sightseeing, restaurant and shopping suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Or, does anyone think a rental car could get us around to sights more easily than the ferry?
The ferry would be more fun and scenic. ride up to Malcesine to see the lovely old town, and take the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo for a nice walk and view over the lake and into the Dolomites. there is a nice little wine bar in the old town.
Thank you Lola. Should I expect it to be quite warm the first week in Sept?
we were there in mid-April, so I can't speak from experience, but I would think warm would be the norm in early Septembeer. But the north end of the lake is more in the mountains, so could experience changeable weather. We've had both warm and cold and rainy---changing daily---nearby there in the Dolomites the first week of September.

Sirmione itself is a must-see. There is an old Roman villa out on the very point of the peninsula that is a nice walk from town.
