I'll be traveling to Italy in 3 weeks and we will be in Florence & Rome. What do we need to prebook in those areas? My book says to get tickets ahead for Uffizi. Should I get them online now or wait until I get to Italy and book just a couple of days in advance? Also, what should we/can we prebook in Rome? We also want to go to Pompeii. We're looking into the RomaPass too. Thanks for the help.
Uffizi , Accademia in Florence Borghese Gallery in Rome.
Reserve tickets at the Vatican Museum as well to avoid the lines.
In Rome you'll want to make a reservation either for a tour or entry tickets to the vatican museums if you wish to see them. You can buy tickets in advance for the colosseum that allow you to bypass the line. If you are going to visit the Borghese gallery it is mandatory to make a reservation. There really is no need to book other sites as the first two mentioned are the only ones that have a line and the gallery limits the number of people at a time. You may want to check out the romapass. It's a sites pass that allows the first two visits for free and reductions at all other sites covered by the pass. Check out their website for a list of sites covered and all the benefits of the pass. http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-regolamento-eng.asp http://www.pierreci.it/en/museums-and-monuments/colosseo.aspx romapass.it Donna
Pre-book a tour to the Vatican Museum. I've done the tour that the Museum puts on twice. The first time, the docent was thorough and did not rush. The second time, it was like a forced march, and I literally could not keep up with our tour guide in the crowd. I would suggest a private tour company such as Context. You have to reserve ahead of time for the Borghese, and DON'T BE LATE or they might not let you in. In Florence, prepay your tickets to the Accademia and the Uffizi. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, allowing two hours for the Uffizi. The Accademia is a quick in and out.
Regarding the romapass just buy it when you get there. We simply walked into a liquor/grocery store by our hotel and bought ours there. You get to use the public transportation free for the 3 days you have the pass. We used ours to get into the Colosseum/Forum and the Borghese. Ask your hotel to make your Borghese reservation, that's probably the easiest. Agree with the others about booking a Vatican museum tour as it will help avoid standing in long lines and gives you access to the "secret" door exit from the sistine chapel to st peter's basilica. The romapass doesn't work for the vatican museum by the way.
You should book your Uffizi tickets now if you can. I am in Florence and there are line ups for tickets if you haven't prebooked. I had to do a "day before" booking for the Uffizi last week as my son and daughter in law changed their mind about going to the Uffizi. I was luck as tickets were available, but only available for 4:45 in the afternoon. In June it will likely be harder to get tickets than now. If you are going to the Accademia to see David, I would also recommend that you book those in advance now.
Thanks everyone....we're going to book the Uffizi and Accademia now. And then work our way through booking Rome. Can't wait!!
