We have an extra day after our Best of Sicily tour which ends in Catania. Our flight home is at noon the day after the tour ends - from CTA. I have read mixed review of Catania. I booked an extra night at the last hotel on the tour, Romano House but I am not wed to it. Suggestions for what to do on our extra day, either in Catania, nearby or a day trip?

They may change the itinerary for 2024 but we went on the tour in 2023 and the day in Catania went quickly. We walked thru the fish market, had an hour or so free time to walk around the pedestrianized area, then went over to the WWII museum. After that checked into the hotel, perhaps 2 or 3 free hours, then the group dinner.
With an extra day you might want to explore more of Catania following the suggestions in the RS guide book. We've always enjoyed food walking tours so that's another suggestion.
