What to do with 4 free days after my ischia visit

Hi Travel Friends

In early September 2024, I will have a few free days before I fly home out of FCO after a family wedding time in Ischia and Capri.

I would like suggestions of where to go in my free days. It’s preferable if I don’t need to rent a car.

I was thinking Cinque Terre and /or the Italian Riviera. I’ve been to each but only for a day each years ago.

What do you all think of this ?

Other suggestions?
I’ve been to a lot of places in Italy already

Many Thanks

Js

Does your stay already include Naples and Pompeii? You could easily spend your time exploring both without running out of things to do. No car required or recommended.

Since you’ve already had numerous days on the Southern Italian coast, it makes little sense to hop on a long train ride to duplicate that in Cinque Terre. I’d choose btw

1) downshifting and taking a “vacation” from your vacation with more time in that area.

2) Sicily
3) Orvieto. Bonus - an easy train back to Rome

Multiple trips to Italy and you haven’t stayed in Naples? You answered your own question! This is a gaping hole in your Italian resume. Naples is worth a couple days easy. Lots to see, and the experience of Naples is a sight in itself. There’s no place like it.

Go to Naples and Sorrento! And anywhere else in the area that you haven’t been to. As for dangerous? I have stayed in Naples numerous times, alone and with other people and it is a wonderful, unique place where I have never felt unsafe. And I can’t say that about a lot of places in the US.

I have always been told Naples is dangerous.

Not as dangerous as many american cities. Just use common sense and good situational awareness and you should be fine.

Sorrento is just a place to stay when you're visiting Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. We stayed there for 11 days in April. But I wouldn't priotize it. If my trip had a do-over I would have spent more time in Naples. It's like no other city I've ever been to. Depending on your level of interest in Pompeii, I would definitely tie it all together with a few hours at the Archeological Museum in Naples. I'd even seriously consider a train ride one stop north of Pompeii to the Villa of Oplontis.
