All 21 days of our trip in Italy during October is booked. Except two days. We leave Almalfi Coast and are heading up to Venice (driving rental car). We have 2 days to do this. We pretty much were going to leave it up to 'winging' it. We want to cut over to the Adriatic coast line and shoot up to Venice that way. So we have two nights. Anyone have any suggestions where we should stop?? We want to split the two days up, so one night in each place. What about Pesaro, or Ancona??
By the way, after Venice we are staying in Tuscany for nine nights, then to Rome for our last three nights.
Thanks in advance.
While I'm not familiar with your interests (history, gastronomy, beaches, nightlife...?), on that route I personally would look at Urbino and Ravenna. Sounds like fun!
Jason,
Our interests are food, wine, culture, scenery. Beaches and history are not much of a priority on this leg of the trip. Maybe just to see or do something that the other areas we are visiting don't have. I will look into those cities..thank you.
Had one of the best meals I've ever had in Pesaro, it also has a nice pedestrian-only downtown area. However its a big summer vacation destination for Italians, so a number of things along the ocean may be closed up in October. In fact you may find this along many of the tourist-oriented towns on the Adriatic side. I would suggest getting a book covering the Adriatic side of Italy (I got one, think it might have been the Rough guide but not sure). Note that the deistance is about 500 miles from the Amalfi coast to Venice so you're going to spend a lot of time in the car.
If your interests are food, wine, culture and scenery, I would recommned 1 day in Bologna (food, wine, culture) and 1 day in San Marino (scenery).
Agree with Rik. Ravenna is great but that's more for history.
Lots of good suggestions.
We spent a little time on the Adriatic coast in late September last year, as part of a week in Le Marche. Even when we were there, it was pretty quiet, but many things were still open. A number of restaurants were no longer open for lunch (we weren't in the area in the evening, so I don't know if they were open for dinner).
If you're interested in food, Senigallia is a big foodie town. We were only there for lunch, but had one of the best meals of our trip at Osteria del Teatro, via F.lli Bandiera, 70.
