My husband and I will have two extra days in Italy after a two week trip. We will be departing Varenna (our last stop) after two days there, May 20. We have been to Milan several times and would like to see something different. We fly out of Malpensa at 1:00 p.m., May 22. Does anyone have recommendations for the short time we'll have left? How about Verona? It's an easy train ride from Milano Centrale ( 1Hr,22mins via freccia train).

You could take a ferry to Menaggio and then a bus to Lugano, Switzerland. From Lugano, direct trains running south to Milan take 1 - 1.5 hours.

My husband and I have been to Verona and are considering going there again, but I like to see new places. We have not been to Lake Garda. I've wondered about Parma but Lugano sounds interesting. You can see I would really like to get it all in. Thanks for your suggestions.

I loved Bergamo - I did it as a daytrip but could happily spend a couple of days there unwinding.
