What To Do Sicily

Good morning RS peeps! So we'll be doing the RS Sicily tour Feb 8-17, and I'm trying to plan before/after tour excursions. I'm wondering if you could offer me some helpful advice. We plan to arrive at least 1-2 days early, maybe more, and plan to stay in Sicily about a week after the tour ends. Although the tour covers almost all the biggies, it seems that four areas might be worth visiting: 1) The Aeolian Islands 1) Noto/Ragusa/Modica 3) Marsala, Erice (and maybe Trapani?), Mazara Del Vallo 4) The mountains around Castelbuono, Petralia Sottana, and Enna If you had an extra 1 - 1 1/2 weeks in Sicily in February what would you do? Thanks!

Erice and Selinunte and Marsala on the Western side (Trapani/ West Palermo province).
I also like Scopello and the Riserva dello Zingaro (near Castellammare sul Golfo) and San Vito lo Capo in that area. However it's February, so it's not the best time to enjoy it. Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina, Noto and Ragusa, on the southern side. Enna too. Catania on the eastern side (I'm sure RS covers Siracusa and Taormina already). The islands are probably not the best choice in winter. I think in winter the options are limited, because RS' tour probably covers everything is worth seeing in the winter season. You could also spend more time in the cities where RS goes, such as Palermo, Taormina and Syracuse.

If I had an extra 1-1.5 weeks in Sicily I'd think I was in heaven. I think Roberto is right about time of year, although Erice has a special quality in the winter, so I would keep Erice/Trapani on the list. This would be true for the interior hill towns as well. Keep in mind that traveling in winter can be slower and most sights have shorter hours of operation. Is Segesta on the tour? Selinunte is also worth a visit. I've been to the Aeolian islands just in time to hear hoteliers and shopkeepers talk about closing up for the winter, so you might want to save that for another time (ferries are also less frequent in winter).
