What to do in Rome

Hi- I'm looking for suggestions on things to do in Rome. Here's my list of activities so far: http://avelist.com/list10097 Is there anything else I should make sure to add to this list?

Hi Maddy, How long are you going to be there? That'll make a difference in what to do. Sarah

Just a couple of days (I haven't finalized my itinerary), so I want to make sure that I make the most of it!

I would suggest you look at the RS guidebook which has a pretty comprehensive list of things to do based on your time. My own personal two day schedule would look like this: Coloseum underground tour, Roman Forum, Victor Emanual building, Pantheon, Night walk (in guidebook), Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain (both day and night), Vatican / St Peters Basicila, Appian Way/Catacombs, and lots of Gelatto.

First, if you have not done so already, do buy the RS Rome guide book. It is a wealth of information. Also review the RS Rome tour which outlines what the tour does every day (not including free time of course) and that will give you a good idea of what there is to do in Rome. I went on the Rome tour in 2008 and am going back in a few weeks. I have to say I do not mind doing the tour again as there was so much to see and absorb!!! Also try to hit as many churches as you can as that is where the amazing art work is! You do not say how many days you are in Rome but no matter, you will not see it all even if you are there a week. I would make sure to get reservations to the Borghese Gallery!!! At the top of the Spanish steps there is a church. (I have always climbed the Spanish steps but did not realize that at the top the building was a church, this time I plan to see that church). Make sure you see the Vatican ( it could day one full day to be there). If you have access to YouTube, there are tons of great videos on Rome and what there is to see and do which will give you great ideas to add to your list. Have a great time. I will write more very shortly.

I think everyone covered what there is to see and do in a couple of days. If you have great weather, skip the museums and walk every where, go into the churches (again the best art is in the churches) and make sure you see the Vatican, Pantheon, Piazza Novona, Spanish steps, Roman Forum, Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, Victor Emmanuel ( go to top and see the views of Rome) stop at cafes and enjoy your self, rest and continue walking to see the streets of Rome which is virtually an out door museum! If it rains, then go to the museums. You can then go to the museums on your next visit if you don't get to them this time. The days will fly by and Rome is an amazing site of the buildings, piazza's, cafes, churches and just sitting and watching people. And as someone already said, have a gelato!
