What to do in Chianti?

A group of eight of us are renting a villa for a week in Castellina. We have our itinerary pretty much settled, but Rick doesn't cover the Chianti area, and we'd like to spend a couple of days exploring the region. We were thinking of a day trip to Greve, Montefioralle and Panzano, and then another day trip to see Volpaia, Radda, Gaiole and Castello di Brolio.

Any suggestions from travelers who have been to the region would be appreciated. Are there better towns to see? Anything we shouldn't miss in these towns? What should we see besides the vineyards?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds good to me. You have them all pretty much packed.
I recommend also getting lost in the smaller narrow roads branching out of the main via Chiantigiana. You might discover wonderful surprises (castles, landscapes, etc.) I think I've been in every single road in the Chianti with my Vespa or motorcycle growing up. One year I spent with a friend two or three days in a row from winery to winery looking for work for the harvest season (sept/October) just to get some cash in my first year at the University. We didn't find any work, but we found hidden corners that even us locals didn't know existed. Those wine makers didn't hire us but they all did offer us a taste of their wine from the barrels. I don't even remember how we made it back to Florence each evening in one piece.
One road I always loved is the road along the Greve river from Greve to Ferrone through the Passo dei. Pecorai. I have wonderful memories of those pine groves along the Greve valley.
